On the Eve of New Year

On the 27th of December 2001 the traditional celebration ‘On the Eve of New Year’ took place with the participation of the Independent Cultural Journal „Ji“ and authors, editors and admirers of the journal, who made a significant contribution to the extension of ‘Ji’ journal last year. The event occurred in the Royal Chambers in L`viv in the hall, where Lviv intellectuals discuss important issues of Ukrainian society and national culture on regular Thursday seminars. During the official ceremony the chief-editor of „Ji“ journal took the floor with the essay ‘On the Eve of the Year 2002’. The highlight of the event was the distribution of two higher awards of ‘Ji’ that went to Natalya Yakovenko, Professor of History, National University ‘Kyiv-Mohyla Academy’, chief-editor of ‘Ukrainian Humanitarian Review’ and to Borys Tarasuik, Minister, Ambassador Preliminary and Plenipotentiary, Director of the Institute for Euroatlantic Co-operation were awarded the ‘Ji’ award „For Intellectual Courage“. The holders of the award greeted the audience and mentioned the importance of free polyphonic exchange of thoughts for social development in Ukraine, and special role of ideas and values, that generated in Halychyna, and Halychians in the state building of Ukraine.
